The Cat Pee Anology
I walked into the house on my lunch break today and it smelled like cat pee.
Our cat had peed in our daughter’s large tent. My sweet husband had already taken the tent apart, removed the stuffed animals, and did his best to clean it all up. He had a fan going to help air things out, but instead of clearing the smell, it just… circulated
The first thing I did? I opened the window in that bedroom, grabbed the disinfectant spray, tossed the biggest stuffed animal outside with a good dousing of fabric refresher, and started a load of laundry for the rest of the stuffed crew. I sprayed some smell-good spray too, just for good measure.
My husband told me he’d actually gotten sick cleaning it earlier. He’d just sat there afterward, not feeling well.
About 20 minutes after I opened the window, he said, “I’m starting to feel better.”
And that’s when the cat pee analogy hit me.
The answer had been simple—open the window, air it out, clean what you can. The tools were literally right there, just sitting at the top of the closet. He just hadn’t seen them.
Not even ten minutes before, I had said out loud, “I’m tired of being unhappy.”
And suddenly it all clicked.
What can I change?
What needs to be removed?
What can I do differently to make things better?
What have I been sitting in that’s making me feel worse—what’s the emotional equivalent of cat pee in a closed room?
I chuckled. Because sometimes, life lessons don’t come in quiet moments of reflection—they come in the form of a tent soaked in cat pee and a husband trying his best.
So here’s your takeaway:
Don’t sit in the staunch of cat pee.
Open the window. Look for the tools you already have.
Take small steps. Spray the fabric refresher. Wash the stuffed animals.

And maybe, just maybe, you’ll start to feel better too.
Also… don’t let your daughter lock the cat in the tent with her. There’s a good chance the cat may need to go potty.
Love,
Megan
